TTDI and West Valley Park Weekend

Another weekend and another Malaysian adventure. Since arriving in KL I have seen signs for 'TTDI', and the sign-posts showing the way to 'TTDI' have saved me many times from driving off into the abyss as I've navigated my way back from work to the apartment. Also, in the numerous guide books we possess, I've read about TTDI and how it is a popular local park that is ripe for viewing monkeys. Once when I was traveling abroad Rachel and the kids visited the park, but they didn't spot any of the furry animals. This weekend our luck was a little better. Taman Tun Doctor Ismail, most often referred to as 'TTDI', is an area of Kuala Lumpur named after Malaysia's first ambassador to the United Nations and Prime Minister in 1970. 'Taman' actually means 'park' and 'Tun' is a federal title awarded Dr. Ismail. Within the TTDI area of Kuala Lumpur is a park named 'Taman Rekreasi Lembah Kiara', formerly 'Hyde Park' that we think we visited yesterday. I 'think' it was this park because the entrance we ended up going into looked more like the back alley behind a movie theator than a major city park. But, thankfully looks were deceiving.

At the start of any good hike everyone was in a 'chipper' mood.

As we travelled along on a wide, paved road that wound its way up the side of a mountain, large fan shaped leaves crossed our paths and made great fans, umbrellas and anything else your imagination could dream up.

It wasn't long before our hopes of viewing monkeys were realized. Along our path we spotted first one, then two and before you knew it, a whole troop of monkeys surrounded us in the dense canopy above and around us.

This little guy was hiding in the dense foliage right next to our path. I think it was Ella that spotted him first. But he didn't waver as we all gathered around him to gawk at how close we were to this primate.

Ella and Adlai found a nice resting spot. In spite of the fact that our path was shaded by the tall rainforest trees, we were all starting to sweat as we wound up and around the mountain.

One of the kids spotted this mother and her baby resting above our heads.
